The Belmont Hotel, Sidmouth, and The Royal Lion Hotel, Lyme Regis, are the latest prestigious hotels to come on board as Concord members. Both of these stylish establishments have a desire to utilise Concord’s experience and expertise in recruiting and training the very best staff to be found for the hospitality industry.
The effortlessly elegant and timeless Belmont is located in a beautiful setting at the western end of Sidmouth's sunny esplanade, with panoramic views out to sea and in both directions along the stunning Jurassic coastline. It is a four star jewel of a hotel which offers the sophisticated charm and grandeur of a bygone era coupled with the luxurious facilities desired by today’s discerning guest. With its beautifully manicured lawns and opulently coloured flowerbeds, it is truly a gem of a hotel. Managers and staff alike pride themselves on their discreet, efficient, friendly and professional service.
The Royal Lion Hotel is an historic, charming and welcoming haven in the pretty, unspoilt seaside town of Lyme Regis, widely known as ‘the pearl of Dorset’, and for very good reason. From humble beginnings as a 17th century coaching inn, those at the Royal Lion Hotel know a thing or two about providing hospitality to their guests and, whilst maintaining the magic and allure of the hotel’s historic past, the hotel has been brought up to date with modern facilities to ensure the perfect balance of old and new. A short stroll from the front door of the hotel, past pretty vintage shops and bustling tearooms, leads you to the stunning view out to the sea and the tranquillity that brings visitors back to this particular pearl year after year.
Concord Hotels are absolutely thrilled that these two delightful hotels have decided to join forces with the Concord ‘family’. As with the other member hotels, it’s a mutual passion for providing quality and excellence in the hospitality industry that entices them to utilise all that the Concord organisation offers.
Since its conception and subsequent launch over 45 years ago, over 1,200 young men and women have been trained by Concord Hotels. Trainees, all of whom are recruited from UK catering colleges, learn all aspects of hotel operation during a structured two-year management training programme. They work and train across four member hotels, with six months spent in each, giving them an all-round experience which benefits both them and the member hotels in which they carry out their placements. Many of these trainees go on to occupy senior positions within the hospitality industry and, on average, an impressive 70% of the trainees are retained within the organisation.
Glen Harrison, Group Training Officer for Concord Hotels, says:
"The Belmont and Royal Lion Hotel are both welcome additions to our portfolio. I am delighted to have them and, of course, General Managers Tim Beauchamp and Mark Dridge, aboard. Our increased presence in the south will give us greater opportunity to cross-fertilise in terms of best practice and will further enhance the existing success of those members in the region."

"For the member hotels it provides a guaranteed supply of committed, ambitious and eager employees who can provide the backbone to the workforce within an establishment. It also provides a level of certainty over where the next staff member is going to come from in an uncertain jobs market. Once trained the member hotels can also reap the rewards of fully trained managers who have a professional approach to the industry and a diverse experience of the different hotel departments."
