The Programmes

For half a century, Concord has achieved an unrivalled level of excellence in the field of
training and development of supervisory and managerial hospitality staff. In an ever-changing world, we strive to adopt an innovative approach to our business and our aspiration and commitment is to offer the most outstanding service in the industry, both to our trainees and to our member hotels. Most recently, we introduced a Chef Development Programme with a view to meeting the needs of our members by capitalising on the wealth of young talent emerging from catering colleges today.

"Concord is the best opportunity to learn the real world of quality hotels first hand.”

Carl Waters, graduate trainee and runner-up Trainee of the Year 2013

Testimony to our award-winning formula for success is that more than 70% of trainees are retained within a Concord hotel on completion of one of our training schemes. This is, without doubt, one of our proudest achievements and of significant benefit to our members and trainees alike.

"I believe that we offer a service that is second-to-none, but we want to keep it that way and a surefire way of doing that is by having the right staff, trained to a high standard. It’s good to know that those coming to us from Concord’s recruitment will be of the highest calibre, hand-picked by experts with years of experience and supported throughout by a mentor who has worked in the industry from grassroots level up to the top of their profession."

The Concord Management Development Programme is designed to enhance knowledge and provide trainees with good all-round operational experience whilst giving exposure to varying types of hotel environment. The two-year programme is endorsed by the Institute of Hospitality. Trainees work across four member hotels, spending approximately six months in each and gain valuable experience in all areas of hotel operations.

The Chef Development Programme is also a two-year programme, with eight-month placements in three of our prestigious member hotels.

Full support is given throughout a trainee's programme, both to the trainee and to the member hotel. At the end of the programme, assistance is provided with finding a permanent position for the graduate trainee and networking opportunities with current and former trainees are also highlighted.

Concord Hotels aims to meet a demand in the industry for good quality hotel staff with management or head chef potential. It seeks to provide a unique service to its members but also to the dedicated, enthusiastic and determined young people who wish to forge a life-long career in hospitality.

"My expectations of the training programme were exceeded. The experience I gained in two years would have taken at least five years in any other circumstances and therefore this has aided me enormously with my career development."

Nathan Birch, graduate trainee 2013
